The 9 Principles of Glenn Beck

They're my principles, too.

1. America is good.

2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.

4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.

5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.

6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.

7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.

8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.

9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

Homeowner Defends Against Home Invaders

Tucson,Arizona,A homeowner, alerted of an impending home invasion by his security cameras, arms himself and takes matters into his hands last Thursday when four armed suspects attempt to break into his home.

Also attached is the news story*...top right.

The video the owner caught is incredible. You see a vehicle pull up, and four men run out. One of them is carrying what appea More..rs to be an AR-15 or M-16, a weapon which could be fully automatic.

The robbery happened last Thursday in broad daylight at a home on West Vande Loo Street. All the action was caught by the homeowners outdoor surveillance system.

"The victim was able to get back inside his house, close his door, semi barricade it, reach for [a] weapon that was easily accessible," says Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Earl Gieron.

The homeowner shot at the suspects. He even put a bullet through the windshield of the suspects car, which is also caught on camera. The four men retreated and took off. All of them remain on the run.

Sheriff's officials say the homeowner has surveillance cameras installed all around his house.

Dep. Gieron says, "That was just for his own security."

People living in the neighborhood heard all the gunshots, and saw the aftermath. Some stray bullets even hit a home across the street.

One man says, "I was asleep around noon Thursday, and heard gunshots."

Lawrence Cruz lives down the street from where the attempted home invasion happened.

"I am very watchful where we live and I think everybody has right to defend their property," says Cruz.

Detectives did find the suspect's vehicle at a home near Cardinal and Valencia, but the four men are still on the run.

One of the suspects has been identified as 23-year-old Jesus Mendivil. It's believed he was shot in the arm.

The three other men are all described as Hispanic males between 17 and 25-years-old.

Net Neutrality: This is Serious by Tim Berners-Lee

When I invented the Web, I didn't have to ask anyone's permission. Now, hundreds of millions of people are using it freely. I am worried that that is going end in the USA.

Net neutrality is this:

If I pay to connect to the Net with a certain quality of service, and you pay to connect with that or greater quality of service, then we can communicate at that level.

20 States Move to Reclaim Sovereignty

A story related to my recent blog post:

As the Obama administration attempts to push through Congress a nearly $1 trillion deficit spending plan that is weighted heavily toward advancing typically Democratic-supported social welfare programs, a rebellion against the growing dominance of federal control is beginning to spread at the state level.

Huck PAC House Party February 26

Barack Obama may be our President but we thought we would have a Party anyway.

Today we are excited to announce a nationwide effort to encourage conservatives to head out into their community and meet one another, learn about Huck PAC's National Volunteer Team and watch a special video I plan on recording to talk about the future of our new National Volunteer Team, President Obama and the path ahead for conservatives.

If you are interested in hosting a party please email Katie Beth Harris. Please include your address information and any questions you might have.

We are using Google Maps to post party information, so that interested supporters can find a Party near them. You can find a map with the latest party information here.

Huck PAC supporters hosting parties will receive an information packet and a copy of a DVD to play on the night of the Party. Ultimately, we hope these parties will recruit new members to the National Volunteer Team and help build a bond of friendship among fellow Huck PAC supporters. To encourage people to attend local parties, I am offering a signed guitar to the Party host with the most members attending. Everyone that attends a Party will receive a "Huck" bumper sticker for their car and have their name entered into a raffle for a special surprise (which I will blog about very soon).

We realize not everyone will find a Party near them. If you don't, we still want you to participate. On Feb. 26 at 8pm we will post the video online and set up an open discussion thread on our blog for everyone to "meet each other."

Thanks for all you do.

With deep gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

Social Networks that Matter: Twitter under the Microscope

Scholars, advertisers and political activists see massive online social networks as a representation of social interactions that can be used to study the propagation of ideas, social bond dynamics and viral marketing, among others. But the linked structures of social networks do not reveal actual interactions among people. Scarcity of attention and the daily rhythms of life and work makes people default to interacting with those few that matter and that reciprocate their attention. A study of social interactions within Twitter reveals that the driver of usage is a sparse and hidden network of connections underlying the “declared” set of friends and followers.

Operation Twitter Tea Party

On April 15, 2009, a bunch of Twitterers (follow me!) are planning to make a statement against:

1) the tax issues of 0bama's pick for Treasury Secretary, Timothy F. Geithner, and Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tom Daschle, both of whom made moves to rectify unpaid taxes only when they were chosen for their new jobs.

- and -

2) taxation without representation (remember last time?)

Additionally, some of us will be participating to make a loud and clear statement to End The Fed, to repeal the Federal Reserve Act (H.R. 2755) and restore America to a sound monetary system.

Under Operation Twitter Tea Party, Conservatives, Liberals and anyone else (this is NOT a partisan issue!) concerned about transparency and accountability in our government officials will be printing the above graphic of a fake check, and sending it to the Internal Revenue Service.

Please note that our previous suggestion to include a soggy tea bag is withdrawn, as we don't want or need any issues with potential security concerns. DO NOT SEND A TEABAG IN YOUR "TWITTER TEA PARTY" IRS SUBMISSION!

We will send a loud and clear message to Washington that US Citizens expect integrity and transparency in our government officials!

Post a comment below to tell us you will be participating!

The Physics of Extraterrestrial Civilizations

We can rank civilizations by their energy consumption, using the following principles:

1) The laws of thermodynamics. Even an advanced civilization is bound by the laws of thermodynamics, especially the Second Law, and can hence be ranked by the energy at their disposal.

2) The laws of stable matter. Baryonic matter (e.g. based on protons and neutrons) tends to clump into three large groupings: planets, stars and galaxies. (This is a well-defined by product of stellar and galactic evolution, thermonuclear fusion, etc.) Thus, their energy will also be based on three distinct types, and this places upper limits on their rate of energy consumption.

3) The laws of planetary evolution. Any advanced civilization must grow in energy consumption faster than the frequency of life-threatening catastrophes (e.g. meteor impacts, ice ages, supernovas, etc.). If they grow any slower, they are doomed to extinction. This places mathematical lower limits on the rate of growth of these civilizations.

In a seminal paper published in 1964 in the Journal of Soviet Astronomy, Russian astrophysicist Nicolai Kardashev theorized that advanced civilizations must therefore be grouped according to three types: Type I, II, and III, which have mastered planetary, stellar and galactic forms of energy, respectively. He calculated that the energy consumption of these three types of civilization would be separated by a factor of many billions. But how long will it take to reach Type II and III status?
