Walk down the trail from the northwest corner of the bridge over the North Fork of the American River in Northern California, continue along the river for a short distance, and you will be rewarded with some large boulders consisting of Banded Gneiss rock, showing amazing multi-colored stripes along their length. Do some research on this rock type before your visit, so you understand and appreciate this breathtaking natural art! When I first stumbled upon these rocks, I was so struck by the unexpected natural beauty that my automatic reaction was to tear up in wonder and appreciation. I think you might have the same memorable experience. Enjoy!
